Medical Insurance

All international students at Highline College must have medical insurance. The insurance fee is charged when international students register for classes. Students will receive their insurance ID card at orientation.

Please note that payment does not guarantee coverage. ISP will verify medical insurance eligibility.

Highline College offers medical insurance for its international students at the following rate:

  • Student coverage: $390 per quarter (Valid from Fall 2018 to Summer 2019)

Click on the links below for more information on Highline health insurance:

For detailed information on what is covered under this insurance plan, please see http://fiiginsurance.com/pdf/HIGH.pdf (1.37MB .pdf).

Under the Highline policy, the office visit co-payment is $20 and the hospital or emergency room co-payment is $100.
In the United States, it is common for people to go to a doctor's office (not a hospital) when they are sick. We do not usually go to the Emergency Room (also called the "ER"), unless it is a real emergency. The reason for this is simple: it is very expensive to go to the Emergency Room!

Keep these important facts in mind:
  • Reduced-Course Load: A student will only be allowed one approved medical reduced course
load per plan year (Fall to Fall) to qualify for medical insurance.
  • Keep your insurance card with you at all times: And show it to the doctor or hospital when you seek medical treatment or call for appointments.
  • You may call a Firebird representative: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 206-909-8550 or toll-free 1-800-899-4233.
  • You may choose any doctor you wish: But if you use a doctor in our PPO network (Preferred Provider Organization), it may save you money.
  • Contact Firebird or Highline ISP: If you have any questions about bills, and respond quickly to requests for information from the insurance company. Complete all forms accurately, and keep copies of everything.

In an EMERGENCY

If you are unable to drive yourself, call 911 for an ambulance!
